Argonaut’s beloved PS1 platformer returns on PS5, PS4, Xbox, Switch, and PC — with a museum mode packed with lost development history.

The date is set

Argonaut Games has confirmed that Croc 2: Kingdom of the Gobbos launches on October 29, 2026 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG. The only platform left out is the Switch 2 — though the Switch version plays there through backward compatibility. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but the first game’s remaster launched at $30, so expect the sequel to land in the same neighborhood.

What’s new in the remaster

Like the first game’s remaster, this is a faithful rebuild with modern touches: enhanced visuals, quality-of-life upgrades, and updated controls. Croc’s moveset grows with a new triple jump on top of the classic tail spin, and the adventure spans more than 40 levels across four distinct villages, each with its own Gobbo culture. You’ll race cars and speedboats, ride mine carts, and take to the skies in planes and hang gliders — plus face new Guardians like Soveena the Squid, Cannon Boat Keith, and Flavio the Thermal Fish.

Croc2pedia: a museum worth the price alone

The standout extra is the Croc2pedia, an in-game museum of long-lost development materials. We’re talking 3D models of cut content, the original game design documentation, marketing assets, animation tests — and a 90-minute documentary with interviews from the original Argonaut team and the remaster developers. Argonaut did the same archival deep-dive for the first remaster’s Crocipedia, and it was one of the best extras in any retro re-release. This looks even bigger.

Croctober is officially a thing

Argonaut is running Croctober all month — news and updates about the series across their social channels leading up to launch. After the first remaster earned a 90% Steam rating and 5/5 on the Xbox store from players, the appetite for the sequel is clearly there.

The bottom line

The 1999 original was many players’ first 3D platformer, and this remaster treats it with real respect: modern controls, a genuine archival museum, and no weird monetization in sight. If you grew up with the little croc with the wiggly butt, October 29 is circled. If you didn’t, the Croc2pedia alone makes this one of the most interesting retro packages of the year.
